The wireless industry's spotlight on moving to 5G is well documented, but many service providers and vendors like AT&T , Verizon and Ericsson are just as keen to take advantage of software-defined networking and network functions virtualization . AT&T has been the leading advocate of SDN and NFV, revealing that it plans to virtualize and control more than 75 percent of its network using a software-driven architecture by 2020.
