Agencies worry about rail merger

In an effort to protect the Juniata Locomotive Shops, three local economic development agencies have joined other organizations in the state to urge the U.S. Surface Transportation Board to critically scrutinize Canadian Pacific Railway's proposal to take over Norfolk Southern. "We're not saying 'don't do it,' but please take a hard look," said Patrick Miller, CEO of the Greater Altoona Economic Development Corp., which voted to send a letter to the STB, along with letters from GAEDC parent Altoona Blair County Development Corp. and the Blair County Chamber of Commerce.
