(Telecompaper) Apple has moved to third place in the global set-top box market in terms of revenue, thanks to its popular Apple TV devices. Apple's rise is supported by the consolidation of the STB market, with Arris buying Pace and Technigolor acquiring Cisco's activities, as well as strong demand for OTT media boxes, IHS said. In 2014, Apple was only in ninth place. In 2015, it shipped more than 10 million Apple TVs, the fifth highest volume in the world after Arris, Technicolor, Skyworth and ZTE, according to the market researcher. Global set-top box shipments grew 4.8 percent in 2015 to 353 million units, supported by expansion of IPTV services in China.
