Big four banks mauled in bear market

All of Australia's major banks are in bear-market territory after investors wiped more than $85 billion off their combined market value this year - a drop of more than 20 per cent. The share price plunge has been sharpest for Asia-focused ANZ Banking Group, which has resulted in it being narrowly overtaken by National Australia Bank as the country's third-largest lender measured by market capitalisation.
