(Telecompaper) UK-based mobile money platform provider Monitise, BlackBerry, and PermataBank will shortly launch a mobile payments service for BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) following a commercial pilot in Indonesia. The BBM Money feature has been created by Indonesian financial institution PermataBank and BlackBerry, with the support of Agit Monitise Indonesia, a joint venture between Monitise Asia Pacific and Astra Graphia Information Technology (Agit). Following approval for the new service from the central bank in Indonesia, BBM Money is rolling out via a commercial pilot for BlackBerry smartphones in the country, ahead of a full launch. BlackBerry users will have the option to access a Mobile Money account from their smartphone and make real-time payments from within BBM to their contacts who are also signed up to the service, buy mobile airtime credit, and transfer money to bank accounts.
