BlackBerry critic Vic Alboini wraps up regulatory fight with reduced penalties

In 2011, Mr. Alboini led a campaign to shake up the boardroom and executive suites at struggling BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. The smartphone maker subsequently changed its name to BlackBerry Ltd. Vic Alboini, the former chief executive of investment dealer Northern Securities Inc., who is perhaps better known for his outspoken criticism of former tech darling BlackBerry Ltd., was ordered to pay reduced financial penalties and serve a less onerous suspension from the investment industry Friday after appealing earlier regulatory findings against him to the Ontario Securities Commission.
