CDC: Prescription painkiller deaths slowing down

The numbers of deaths due to overdoses of prescription painkillers continue to rise but have slowed, according to a new report released Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Atlanta-based health agency reports that deaths from such drugs climbed by 18% each year from 1999 through 2006, but rose by only 3% from 2007 through 2011.
