FAA announced that it has awarded $100 million in contracts to 8 companies to develop and demonstrate technologies that reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and noise under the second phase of its Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions, and Noise program. Five-year CLEEN II program will build on success of original CLEEN program, a public-private partnership that began in 2010 and is a key part of FAA's NextGen efforts to make aviation more environmentally friendly.
