Carl Icahn takes top stake in Freeport-McMoRan

On a day the Phoenix-based mining giant shared plans to cut capital spending in the next year and to shed about 10 percent of its workforce due to lower copper prices, Icahn announced his reported stake of 88 million shares of Freeport, reports CNBC . Freeport has felt the pinch of dropping commodity prices, including the 18 percent dip in copper this year.
