Central Rejects Harbinger Acquisition Offers

Pet and garden product manufacturer Central Garden and Pet Co., a leading pet and garden product manufacturer, rebuffed the Harbinger Group Inc. from buying the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based company outright or from acquiring its pet segment. Central's board of directors unanimously rejected the New York-based holding company's cash stock buyout bid for all of the company's shares at $10 a share-$2.16 more per share than the per-share value at the time-or its offer to acquire the pet segment for $750 million.
