(Telecompaper) Sundar Pichai is replacing Andy Rubin as the head of the Android operating system, announced Google CEO Larry Page on the group's blog. Pichai will continue to be in charge of Chrome and Google Apps as he also takes the helm for Android. Rubin, who brought the idea of Android to Google in 2004, "has decided it's time to hand over the reins and start a new chapter at Google", writes Page, adding that "while Andy's a really hard act to follow, I know Sundar will do a tremendous job doubling down on Android as we work to push the ecosystem forward".
