(Telecompaper) China Unicom saw its first half net profit jump by 55 percent to CNY 5.32 billion from CNY 3.43 billion a year earlier. EBITDA totalled CNY 42.18 billion, up 17 percent, and EBITDA margin of service revenues by 1 percentage point to 36.2 percent. Operating revenues grew 18.6 percent to CNY 144.31 billion, with service revenues going up 13.8 percent to CNY 116.48 billion. Mobile contributed CNY 72.85 billion to service revenues, up 20.5 percent, and fixed service revenues were CNY 43.25 billion, up 4.2 percent year-on-year. China Unicom said that its 3G services went up by 52.1 percent year-on-year to CNY 40.91 billion and the 3G proportion of mobile service revenues reached 56.2 percent. The company had more than 100 million 3G subscribers, or 38.2 percent of its mobile customer base. China Unicom also said that broadband service revenues grew 10.4 percent to CNY 22.58 billion and its contribution to fixed-line service revenues exceeded 50 percent. The number of broadband subscribers grew to 62.58 million.
