China's Tsinghua Unigroup, a state-controlled conglomerate, has said it would be interested in talks with MediaTek Inc. and that the Taiwanese law that prevents Chinese investment in Taiwanese companies should be relaxed, according to Taiwanese reports. Tsinghua Unigroup is one of the tools being used by China to build up its position in the semiconductor industry by way of a series of mergers and acquisitions.
