(Telecompaper) Cisco has agreed to buy the small cells specialist Ubiquisys for USD 310 million. The purchase price for the UK-based company includes incentives to maintain key employees. Ubiquisys will be integrated into the Cisco Service Provider Mobility Group, reporting to Partho Mishra, vice president and general manager of the Service Provider Small Cell Technology Group. Building on its existing Wi-Fi portfolio and recent acquisitions BroadHop and Intucell, the takeover sees Cisco expand further in the growing heterogenous networks segment for service providers. Ubiquisys targets the service provider market, offering 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi small cells for a range of network scenarios, including public, outdoor, enterprise and residential access.
