Nearly six decades after he retired in 1958, the towering figure once cast over the Historic Area by Colonial Williamsburg President Kenneth Chorley has largely been forgotten. But the forceful, 6-foot-5 Rockefeller lieutenant saved the pioneering restoration during its troubled birth, then shaped it into an internationally admired model of historic preservation.
