2015-09-08 15:52:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) CommScope has agreed to acquire small cells specialist Airvana for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2000, Airvana began to develop small cell technology to complement its macro cell mobile infrastructure products and now focuses exclusively on small cells. The company has shipped 1.5 million small cells to date and supports one of the largest small cell networks in the world. The acquisition will expand CommScope's range of products to enhance indoor wireless capacity and coverage, adding small cells to its distributed antenna systems. CommScope said it will be able to provide a broad range of systems, from single-operator, single-band, low capacity environments all the way through multi-carrier, multi-technology, multi-band, high capacity environments. Airvana CEO Richard Lowe, co-founder and CTO Vedat Eyuboglu and the rest of Airvana's employees, most of whom are based in Massachusetts and Bangalore, will join CommScope.  The acquired business will continue to be headquartered in Chelmsford, Massachusetts and will operate within CommScope's Wireless segment upon completion of the acquisition. The deal is expected to be completed within the next 60 days, and CommScope will fund the acquisition with cash on hand.
