Critics of proposed new operating standards for schools today urged the Ohio Board of Education to reconsider the guidelines, arguing that they could eliminate music and art classes as well as librarians, counselors, school nurses and other staff. "I know the board does not want to deprive Ohio students of the arts, however, the proposed language and administrative code allows the quiet dismantling of quality programming in Ohio schools," said Kevin Dengel, orchestra director at Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools.
