DENR: Duke Energy can't promise to move more coal ash pits

North Carolina's environmental officials moved Wednesday to stop an agreement that would commit Duke Energy to scooping out and moving coal ash from three more unlined and leaking pits. The state Department of Environment and Natural Resources argued in court that the deal between the country's largest electricity company and environmentalists skirted a state law dealing with the decades-old residue left after burning coal to produce power.
