Digicel, Facebook launch "Free Basics" in Jamaica

(Telecompaper) Digicel Jamaica has partnered with Facebook to launch the "Free Basics" platform on the island with a view to reducing the country's digital divide. Digicel Jamaica users now have zero rating access to sites such as Facebook Flex, Messenger, Wikipedia, Worldreader, Connect News, BBC News, Education Game Portal, Mathematics by TeachMe.com, Facts for Life and Tambero.com, among others. Over 1 billion people worldwide can now access "Free Basics", including users in Latin American countries such as El Salvador, Panama, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Suriname, Peru and Bolivia.
