Dividends are a huge force for investors: As Morgan Stanley's Adam Parker and his team note, 40% of the total equity market performance in the US over the last century has come from dividends. Yet with an interest rate hike possibly arriving before the end of the year, investors are in a bind: The historical value of owning dividend-paying stock is clear, yet rising rates are also historically shown to be bad news for high-yielding stocks.
