According to FAA's statement, it has identified recent En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM) software upgrade at Leesburg, VA, high-altitude radar facility as the source of Saturday's automation problems and is working closely with contractor Lockheed Martin Corp to prevent future occurrences. During said outage, air traffic controllers safely handled 70%–88% of Saturday’s scheduled arrivals and departures at 3 major regional airports using backup systems and procedures.
