FAA granted regulatory exemptions to 4 companies that want to fly unmanned aircraft systems to perform aerial surveying, construction site monitoring, and oil rig flare stack inspections. Commercial entities that received exemptions are Trimble Navigation Limited; VDOS Global, LLC; Clayco, Inc.; and Woolpert, Inc. Secretary Foxx found that UAS in proposed operations do not need FAA-issued certificate of airworthiness because they do not pose threat to national airspace users or national security.
