Feds Move To Delist Gray Wolf Under ESA, Mexican Wolf Remains Protected

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to remove the gray wolf from the list of threatened and endangered species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). But it has opted to leave the Mexican wolf protected, drawing protests from cattlemen. Long a flashpoiont for controversy, wolf reintroduction has been a fact of life for more than 30 years. It has been so successful that the Fish and Wildlife Serivce has once again proposed to delist the gray wolf under the ESA. But it has opted to continue protecting the Mexican wolf, leaving cattlemen in the Southwest still scrambling to co-exist. read more
