(Telecompaper) Canadian mobile telecommunications company Fongo has announced it is making a bid to acquire Wind Mobile. Currently, Wind Mobile's network coverage is limited mainly to Ontario, with pockets of coverage in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver. As part of the proposed acquisition, Fongo plans to immediately extend the Wind Mobile service offering across the country to mirror Fongo's coast-to-coast free calling network. Current Wind Mobile customers would be transitioned to Fongo over the course of twelve months. Fongo plans to retain the majority of Wind Mobile's employees, but has pledged to re-think many aspects of the business. It is offerign CAD 1 plus 49 percent of its own business to Wind's owners. The Financial Post reported that Wind quickly rejected Fongo's offer. Simon Lockie, Wind's chief regulatory officer, said on Twitter: "I hereby publicly offer to buy Fongo for $1 and half my sandwich. Hopefully the story gets picked up before I get too hungry to deliver." Fongo claims over 250,000 users for its mobile service based on a free smartphone app.
