General Mills Profit Rises, Helped by Cost Cuts

General Mills Inc. on Thursday reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $529.5 million, according the Associated Press , or 87 cents a share, up from $346.1 million, or 56 cents, a year earlier. Excluding a loss stemming from the aforementioned divestiture and stripping out restructuring costs, among other items, per-share profit rose to 82 cents from 80 cents.
