Georgia State University researchers have received a grant of nearly $2.7 million to work on improving blood transfusion outcomes. The university says the grant from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will allow the school's Georgia Health Policy Center to work with patients with hemoglobin disorders, like sickle cell disease and thalassemia, who often need frequent blood transfusions.
