German regulator asks EC again for say on E-Plus, O2 deal

2014-01-10 10:44:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The European Commission (EC) has received a renewed request from Germany's anti-trust body to review Telefonica Germany's proposed takeover of rival mobile network E-Plus, reports the Wall Street Journal. Germany's 'Bundeskartellamt' has sent out a reminder asking for the power to review the deal, instead of the merger being examined by EU regulators. The request comes three weeks after the EC opened an in-depth investigation into the merger, thereby refusing an initial request from German regulators to review the deal themselves. The Commission has until 12 February to make a decision on the referral request.
