Glass recycling takes a hit nationwide -- but still urged in Erie area

Local recycling officials say they are continuing to encourage residents to recycle glass along with paper, plastic and cans, even though companies across the U.S. that handle recyclables are finding glass increasingly expensive to handle. David Steiner, chief executive of Waste Management Inc., said in March that recycling revenue for the nation's largest trash hauler fell $70 million in the first three months of 2015.
