(Telecompaper) Google is expanding its fibre network in the US with the acquisition of San Francisco operator Webpass. Google said the deal will help accelerate the deployment of fast internet connections for customers across the US. Webpass will remain focused on rapid deployment of high-speed connections for residential and commercial buildings, primarily using point-to-point wireless. The transaction is expected to close this summer, subject to regulatory approvals. Webpass already has tens of thousands of customers across five major markets in the US.
