(Telecompaper) There was an around 40 percent drop in the global page views per minute recorded by GoSquared Analytics' real-time tracking service when Google.com went down for a few minutes between 23:52 and 23:57 BST (the end of the working day in California) on Friday 16 August. The reliance of internet users on google.com s 'huge', writes GoSquared. Pageviews spiked by around 20 percent compared to normal traffic shortly after service was re-established, as users managed to reach their destinations. A total of 16 Google apps were simultaneously affected. Venture Beat calculates that based on Google's USD 14.1 billion revenues in the second quarter, it makes some USD 108,000 per minute, which means the outage could have cost it USD 545,000.
