A Newark woman who rented two generators from United Rentals on Pike Street but never returned the machines pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony charge of theft in Washington County Common Pleas Court Tuesday. Samantha J. Thompson, 28, of 17 W. Shields St., Newark, but now living in Charleston, W.Va., according to defense attorney Nancy Brum, was indicted on the theft charge by a Washington County grand jury on May 31. "On March 6, 2014 the defendant and another individual went to United Rentals at 1205 Pike St. in Marietta and leased two generators for a 24-hour period," explained Washington County Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Rings.
