(Telecompaper) HP is expanding in network functions virtualisation with its own OpenNFV programme. To lead the new business, HP appointed Bethany Mayer, currently senior vice president and general manager at HP Networking, as head of its NFV strategy. The programme includes the launch a NFV Reference Architecture, HP OpenNFV Labs, and a partner ecosystem of NFV applications and services. HP has already been supporting operators such as BT with technical resources, technologies and lab facilities to enable a range of proofs of concept, including content delivery network, Wi-Fi IPsec termination and virtualised CPE. Its NFV reference architecture covers physical servers, storage and networking, virtualisation, controllers for software-defined networking, resource management and orchestration, analytics, telco applications and a complete operations support system. The HP OpenNFV Labs and an HP OpenNFV Partner Program will work on testing, validating and managing multi-vendor network applications. Alcatel-Lucent and NSN are among the first partners in the programme. HP is exhibiting its OpenNFV Program with proof-of-concept demonstrations at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
