Japan set to be criticized for 2020 emissions target

Asahi Shimbun: The government has set a target of 2020 greenhouse gas emissions at 3.8 percent lower than 2005 levels, sources said, noting that the figure is still more than 3 percent higher than 1990 levels. It is likely to be criticized by the international community. The figure was agreed to during a Nov. 6 meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Environment Minister Nobuteru Ishihara. It reflects a sense that Japan may not be able to depend on nuclear power--a clean form of energy--in the future...
