On June 4, City Council of Kansas City, Missouri, passed a building energy benchmarking and transparency ordinance that would require large municipal, multifamily, and commercial buildings to measure and disclose their energy use. Such policies make it possible to compare energy performance of different buildings, allowing prospective buyers and renters to understand the full cost of operating the building. They can also help building owners address energy inefficiencies in their facilities.
