A recent wave of foul odors emanating from the Sussex County Landfill into the southeastern portion of Prince George County has prompted officials to extensively investigate the cause of the issue, as well as design plastic membranes to place over the landfill and contain the smell. The Sussex County Landfill is operated by Atlantic Waste Disposal, a subsidiary of Waste Management Inc. Jason Williams, the senior district manager for Waste Management, said that the company takes citizens' complaints seriously and that they have hired a number of professionals to examine the odor situation at the Sussex Landfill, although the exact cause is still to be determined.
