Alcoa was the region's best performing stock in 2014, a year that saw local stocks lag behind broad market indexes. The Post-Gazette/Bloomberg index of 56 regional stocks fell less than 1 percent last year, with 25 of the stocks in the index gaining ground and 31 declining.
