Washington-based Haggen Food & Pharmacy is buying 83 grocery stores in California, including dozens in Southern California, as part of a plan to buy 146 Albertsons and Safeway stores in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona. The transaction is related to the March announcement that Albertsons owner, Cerberus Capital Management LP, would buy Pleasanton-based Safeway Inc. in a deal valued at about $7.6 billion.
