ScienceDaily: The team of Andrés Cózar, an ecologist at CEIMAR at the University of Cadiz in Spain, provided the first global map of the abundance of plastic debris in the open oceans. The map showed the existence of five areas of large-scale accumulation of floating plastic debris in the centres of the North Pacific, South Pacific, North Atlantic, South Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
