(Telecompaper) Russian mobile operator Megafon has begun commercial operation of its network under the LTE-Advanced standard in the city of Moscow. The network infrastructure is based on equipment from Huawei and the LTE Advanced Cat 6 standard, supporting speeds up to 300 Mbps. Megafon uses a combination of its own spectrum and frequencies belonging to its subsidiary Scartel in the 2.6 GHz band. The services are currently accessible within the Sadovoye Ring, and coverage is to be expanded this year to the whole area within the Moscow Ring Motorway. Services will be launched in other major Russian cities later. Megafon is using the new brand 4G+ to promote the service. Customers can purchase the MegaFon Space router (R3001), developed by Huawei, to access the LTE service and create a hotspot for up to 32 Wi-Fi devices. It costs RUB 11,990 if purchased with the Internet XL option for one month or more.
