Mendocino County to get nearly $8,000 of Safeway settlement

Mendocino County will receive nearly $8,000 as part of the settlement the Safeway supermarket chain paid for violating environmental laws regarding hazardous waste. According to the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office, Pleasanton-based Safeway Incorporated, which also owns Vons, Pavilions and Pak 'n Save, must pay "$9.7 million in civil penalties, costs incurred by various agencies and funding for supplemental environmental projects" for improper handling of hazardous waste.
