The fee hike for base fare will go up 25 cents, from $1.50 to $1.75, according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This is Metro's first rate increase in four years, and comes in the midst of the biggest surge in rail construction in the city's history, the Los Angeles Times points out, noting that by the end of the year, five new lines will be under construction, spanning downtown Los Angeles, mid-Wilshire, Azusa, South L.A. and Santa Monica.
