(Telecompaper) The government of Mexico aims to reach 70 percent of total homes in the country with internet services, Telesemana reports, citing the country's deputy telecoms minister Jose Ignacio Peralta Sanchez. The official also said that the government's goal is to provide internet connectivity to 85 percent of the SMEs in the country. To achieve this goal, the government plans to expand a fibre optic network owned by state-owned electric utility Federal Electricity Commission as well as to deploy a shared mobile services network in the 700 MHz band, according to the report.
