Microsoft quarterly revenues fall 10 percent

2016-01-29 08:29:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Microsoft reported a fall in revenues for its fiscal second quarter to December to USD 23.8 billion, down 10 percent from USD 26.5 billion a year earlier due to weaker sales of Windows and mobile phones. Operating profit fell to USD 6.0 billion from USD 7.8 billion, and net profit dropped to USD 5.0 billion from USD 5.9 billion a year ago. Adjusted EPS increased 11 percent year-on-year to USD 0.78. Microsoft's growth in the quarter was held back by the strong dollar. Excluding currency effects, revenues would have risen 3 percent and adjusted earnings 23 percent. While the weak PC market led to a 5 percent fall in Windows OEM revenue at constant exchange rates and revenue from mobile phones fell 49 percent, Surface revenues were up 29 percent, search ad revenue (ex TAC) rose 21 percent, server products and cloud services revenue grew 10 percent and Office 365 increased revenues nearly 70 percent. Xbox Live monthly active users also were up 30 percent year-over-year to a record 48 million.
