(Telecompaper) Microsoft has sent out invitations to the media for an event for its Surface tablets on 23 September in New York City. The company is expected to launch the new version of its Windows tablets at the event. Sources familiar with the matter told The Verge that the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 will have a very similar design to their predecessors, but the Surface Pro 2 will be upgraded to Intel's new Haswell processor, and the company is planning to ship units with 8GB of RAM. The Surface 2 is expected to run Windows RT 8.1, although it will drop the 'RT' name, and it will include a 1080p display and Nvidia's Tegra 4 processor. A new Power Cover accessory for the tablets will also be unveiled, boosting the battery life through a built-in battery in the keyboard cover. The Verge said the company is not expected to announce a new smaller version of the tablet.
