(Telecompaper) Microsoft announced that its Cortana digital assistant will also be available for iPhone and Android users. In a blog post about device integration with Windows 10, the company confirmed that Cortana apps will be available for Android and iOS mobile devices. Cortana is already available in Windows phones and will be integrated in the desktop version of Windows 10. Microsoft also plans the new Phone Companion app so users of Windows 10 computers can sync content from their Windows, Android or Apple phones with their PCs. The new Cortana apps for Android and Apple will integrate with the Phone Companion app and Cortana on the Windows computer to share content such as the notebook and calendars. However, Android and Apple users of Cortana will not have as much functionality as Windows Phone users; notably the voice function 'Hey Cortana' to have the assistant look up information is not possible. This is because Cortana requires a deeper level of integration with the operating system, which is not possible with non-Windows devices. The Phone Companion app will be available in a few weeks with the next preview version of Windows 10. The Android version of Cortana should be available by the end of June and the iOS version will launch later this year.
