Mitsubishi UFJ Financial , or MUFG, has set aside $8 billion on acquisitions in the US and Asia to escape from Japan's anemic home market. MUFG believes it has significant excess capital based on its 11.3 per cent core tier one capital ratio, the key measure of financial strength, under the new Basel III metric.
