Montenegro mulls setting up a new state-owned ISP

(Telecompaper) The Montenegrin government is considering the establishment of its own ISP, to provide citizens with better and cheaper internet, announced the Electronic Communications Agency of Montenegro, reports Vijesti. According to the paper, Montenegrin citizens are paying the most expensive internet in the region and Europe because the government allowed Crnogorski Telekom to get a monopoly position on the market ten years ago. The Government of Montenegro recently ordered Crnogorski Telekom, which is owned by Deutsche Telekom, to reduce the cost of internet access by 35 percent. According to the director of the Eletronic Communications Agency, Zoran Sekulic, the decision was preceded by a market analysis, which established the operator has a monopoly position in the market and that the price of its internet service too high in relation to costs.
