Morocco raises MAD 2 billion in LTE auction

2015-03-19 10:36:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Moroccan telecom regulator ANRT has approved the bids for LTE licences submitted by the country's three mobile operators, Maroc Telcom, Medi Telecom and Wana Corporate. ANRT said they were three high-quality offers, with investment commitments to contribute to the development of national telecom infrastructure. The evaluation of the bids underscored three main points. The 5-year coverage commitments are higher than the minimum sought. The QoS indicators proposed align with international best practice. The market vision and business plans will contribute to developing the broadband and superfast broadband markets in Morocco. Maroc Telecom bid MAD 1 billion (about USD 99.23 mln) for its licence, Wana Corporate MAD 503 million, and Medi Telecom MAD 500.44 million. In addition, the three operators will pay MAD 860.4 million to support the cost of refarming spectrum.
