(Telecompaper) The government of Myanmar has invited expressions of interest for a telecommunications licence. The government will open up the ICT industry in the country to international companies as part of its goal to increase teledensity to 75 to 80 percent in 2015-16. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology will award two nationwide telecommunications services licences in the first half of this year and is now inviting expressions of interest before 25 January. The licences will be for a term of ten to twenty years and will be technology neutral. The ICT ministry also said the government is working on a new telecommunications law to liberalise the sector, which is expected to pass by June.
