Netherlands looks at free roaming in Benelux

2015-07-02 15:40:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Dutch government said it's looking at ending roaming surcharges in the wider Benelux area. Belgium and Luxembourg already have a similar agreement, and the Netherlands could be added to this. Parliament supports the move, and the ministry aims to come with a proposal in the third quarter. In a parliamentary debate 02 July, Minster Henk Kamp said he was satisfied with the recent EU compromise to end roaming charges from mid-2017. The Belgian and Luxembourg regulators announced in May an agreement aimed at ending roaming charges for residents traveling between their two countries. The agreement will allow a Belgian mobile number to work on a Luxembourg network as if it were a national subscriber. As a result, Belgian operators can offer their services without roaming surcharges in Luxembourg, and vice versa.
